Foreign trade and current economic policies

India is currently the fastest-growing economy in the world, surging ahead of many other emerging and developing countries in Asia in terms of economic development. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Indian economy grew by 7.0 per cent in 2024. The IMF predicts that the country’s economy will continue on its strong upward trajectory, projecting growth of 6.5 per cent annually in 2025 and 2026.
The Indian government’s aim is to make the Indian economy self-reliant (‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’) and to bolster domestic industrial production. And this economic objective is also reflected in the country’s budget. For the upcoming fiscal years, the government is providing approximately EUR 21.74 billion in subsidies to support industrial manufacturing in India. A range of industries – including electronics, pharmaceuticals, medical technology and automobiles – are expected to enjoy the benefits of these Production Linked Incentives, as they are known, which will be paid out based on production volumes.
The project ‘Make in India Mittelstand’ from the Indian Embassy in Berlin has set the clear goal of boosting investment and fostering value creation in India.
